Introduction:
I am Sophie Hess, a recent graduate from Arizona State University (ASU), where I earned my Master’s degree in Marketing Management. Currently serving as an Avoidista Media Relations and Marketings Manager for the SESE, my time at ASU was not just about acquiring knowledge but also about building connections that would play vital roles in shaping my career.
Career Goals:
Post-graduation, I am eager to continue making an impact on a global scale by focusing on areas such as brand management and marketing strategies. My passion lies in helping brands grow, improve their image and reach new heights while contributing positively to the world. A dream opportunity would be working with a dynamic brand agency or a cosmetics company, where I can shape narratives that resonate with consumers globally.
Philanthropic Endeavor:
If given $40 million as an opportunity to solve one global problem, my priority would revolve around three interconnected issues – poverty, climate change, and animal cruelty. The resources could be utilized in creating job opportunities, enhancing education and healthcare systems for breaking the cycle of poverty, investing in renewable energy sources to combat climate change, and promoting animal welfare as well as conservation efforts.
Mentor’s Influence:
Professor Euvin Naidoo has been a significant influence on my academic journey during ASU. His teachings have reinforced the importance of curiosity-driven learning and asking questions – principles that I believe are essential for meaningful connections, understanding, and progress in today’s world.
Personal Influences:
My parents, both veterans, instilled resilience, integrity, and service values within me. Their unwavering support towards exploring my passions has played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today. Their experiences inspired my interest in international management while nurturing my understanding of gender roles and strengths in traditionally male-dominated fields like the military.
Balancing Demands:
Maintaining equilibrium between graduate studies, personal life, self-care, and professional responsibilities is a continual challenge that comes with its ups and downs. However, having a supportive network of friends who empathize with similar experiences has been incredibly beneficial. They understand the intricacies of balancing various aspects of life while studying.
Advice for Incoming Graduates:
ASU is not just about academics; it’s an immersive experience that offers a wealth of knowledge and opportunities to learn from everyone around you – be it fellow students or community members. I encourage incoming graduate students to embrace this culture, as there are numerous ways to grow beyond the confines of classroom learning.
